Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Attorney (Remote; Project-Based)

Job Description

Latitude is assisting one of its clients, a leading company in the optical and lens products industry, in seeking an experienced Cybersecurity and Data Privacy attorney to provide legal and strategic support in connection with the development and implementation of a comprehensive Data Loss Prevention ("DLP") program, policy framework, and incident response/reaction strategy for the company.

This attorney will work closely with information security, IT, privacy, compliance, and business stakeholders to help establish a practical and legally sound framework for preventing, identifying, managing, and responding to potential loss, leakage, unauthorized disclosure, or misuse of sensitive company and customer information.

The ideal candidate will have meaningful experience advising organizations on cybersecurity, data protection, information governance, security incidents, and regulatory compliance and will be comfortable working independently in a project-based environment.

The successful candidate will be a practical, business-oriented lawyer who is comfortable operating at the intersection of law, cybersecurity, technology, privacy, and risk management. The attorney should be able to quickly understand the organization's existing environment, identify gaps, and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to build a DLP and incident response framework that is both legally defensible and operationally workable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on the development, review, and implementation of a comprehensive Data Loss Prevention policy and governance framework.
  • Assess existing policies, procedures, controls, and practices relating to the protection and handling of confidential, proprietary, personal, and other sensitive information.
  • Provide legal guidance regarding the identification and classification of sensitive data and appropriate safeguards based on applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with cybersecurity and IT teams regarding the implementation of DLP controls, monitoring, escalation protocols, access controls, and related technical safeguards.
  • Develop or refine a data loss and cybersecurity incident response/reaction strategy, including escalation, investigation, containment, remediation, documentation, and notification procedures.
  • Help establish clear roles and responsibilities among Legal, Information Security, IT, Privacy, Compliance, HR, Communications, and business stakeholders when potential data loss events occur.
  • Advise on applicable breach notification, cybersecurity, privacy, data protection, and regulatory obligations arising from security incidents or unauthorized disclosures.
  • Assist with the development of incident severity classifications, legal escalation thresholds, decision trees, and response playbooks.
  • Review DLP and incident response practices for alignment with applicable privacy and cybersecurity laws and recognized industry frameworks.
  • Advise on privilege, internal investigations, forensic reviews, regulator engagement, customer notifications, and communications arising from significant security incidents.
  • Review relevant vendor and third-party arrangements for cybersecurity, confidentiality, data protection, breach notification, and security obligations.
  • Support employee training and awareness initiatives relating to confidential information, cybersecurity risks, acceptable use, and data handling.
  • Provide practical recommendations designed to balance regulatory and legal requirements with the company's operational and business needs.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent law degree from an accredited law school, with active admission and good standing in at least one applicable jurisdiction.
  • Approximately 7+ years of relevant legal experience, with significant experience advising on cybersecurity, data privacy, data protection, information security, or related regulatory matters.
  • Prior in-house legal experience strongly preferred, particularly within a multinational, technology, financial services, or other highly regulated organization.
  • Demonstrated experience advising on data loss prevention programs, cybersecurity incident response, data breaches, security investigations, and/or information governance.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable privacy, cybersecurity, data protection, and breach notification laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience partnering directly with CISOs, cybersecurity and IT teams, privacy and compliance professionals, and senior business leaders.
  • Familiarity with recognized cybersecurity and information security frameworks and standards, including NIST, ISO 27001, or similar frameworks, is preferred.
  • Experience advising multinational organizations on cross-border data protection, cybersecurity, and information governance matters is highly desirable.
  • Asia-Pacific experience, including familiarity with Singapore data protection and cybersecurity requirements, would be particularly valuable.
  • Ability to independently manage complex matters, assess legal and regulatory risk, develop practical solutions, and drive projects forward with limited supervision.
  • Strong judgment and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal and cybersecurity requirements into practical, business-oriented guidance for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
