United States (Remote)EngagementIn-House

Legal Engineer – AI & Legal Workflow Automation

Job Description

Latitude Legal is partnering with a global consumer cybersecurity company to find an attorney fluent in AI and automation to join its in-house legal team as a Legal Engineer. This is a fully remote, engagement role that will start part-time, but may flex up as priorities expand. The company is also open to converting the role to a permanent role if there is a mutual fit.

The company is a publicly traded technology company whose brands operate in the security/identity management space. The company has a significant European presence and operates in one of the most heavily regulated corners of tech: consumer data, privacy, AI and consumer finance. The ideal candidate will be an attorney who has not only actually designed, built and deployed AI, automation or workflow solutions, but is also able to look at the company's processes with fresh, critical eyes, identify where AI and automation will make the biggest difference, and then build those solutions.

What You'll Do Includes:

  • Assess how the legal team currently works across various legal workflows but in particular, intellectual property and compliance, and give an objective view of which manual processes AI and automation could most valuably automate
  • Convert manual, document- and email-driven legal processes into scalable automated workflows, from process mapping and requirements through build, testing, launch and iteration
  • Automate legal and compliance intake and approval workflows to cut down on manual information-gathering
  • Support IP and open-source review workflows
  • Evaluate, configure and optimize the team's existing AI tools (enterprise AI assistants, AI contract review, marketing review and subpoena-response tools) and recommend build-versus-buy decisions for new ones
  • Write and refine prompts, playbooks, guardrails and quality checks so AI-assisted legal work is accurate, consistent and properly supervised by attorneys
  • Partner with the company's internal IT team on security, integrations and responsible AI use
  • Act as a training resource and AI champion for the legal team, driving adoption through hands-on enablement, documentation and change management
  • Measure and report impact (time saved, cycle times, volume handled) and keep improving solutions as the business and AI capabilities change

Who You Are:

  • Licensed attorney with 5+ years of in-house experience, preferably commercial/technology transactions, privacy, product or regulatory work
  • Experience personally building and deploying AI or automation solutions in a legal setting (e.g., custom AI agents or assistants, self-service legal Q&A tools, contract-review playbooks, automated intake and triage, compliance trackers, or workflow automations).
  • Hands-on experience with generative AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, enterprise LLM assistants and legal-specific AI platforms) and comfortable with prompt design, testing and evaluating outputs
  • Experience with low-code/no-code automation, ticketing or intake systems, collaboration-platform workflows and/or contract lifecycle management is a plus but not required
  • A process thinker who can map a workflow, find the main bottleneck or constraint, and design a better system rather than automating a broken process
  • Familiar with privacy and data protection frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA) and AI governance; AI governance or privacy certifications (e.g., IAPP AIGP, CIPP) are a plus
  • A clear communicator and practical change agent who can bring busy lawyers and business stakeholders along, and who is comfortable working across time zones with US and European colleagues
  • Self-directed and entrepreneurial, with sound legal judgment and a bias toward shipping practical solutions
  • Active bar admission and in good standing
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Outstanding references
