United States (Remote)EngagementLitigation

Mass Tort Attorney

Job Description

Latitude Legal is seeking a Mass Tort Litigation Attorney to support a plaintiff-side Los Angeles litigation firm on a part-time engagement basis (approximately 20 hours per week, with the potential to increase). This is a fully remote role with a flexible start date. California licensure is strongly preferred, but exceptional litigators licensed in other states will be considered. The engagement has potential to last more than a year, providing opportunity for a long-term, stable engagement (if preferred).

The firm represents women in medical sexual abuse cases against physicians and the institutions that employed them, with a large and growing number of plaintiffs in coordinated proceedings. The firm is looking for a rigorously trained litigator who can manage the volume and pace of mass tort work while producing polished, reliable work product from day one.

What You'll Do Includes:

  • Draft and revise pleadings for new and existing plaintiffs, including complaints and amended pleadings as additional cases are filed.
  • Draft motions, oppositions, and briefs in coordinated mass tort proceedings
  • Support written discovery and meet-and-confer efforts across a large multi-plaintiff docket, keeping positions and work product consistent across individual cases.
  • Prepare and review plaintiff fact sheets, discovery responses, and verifications, working with clients to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Handle discovery disputes involving institutional defendants, including privilege issues, protective orders, and the scope of document productions.
  • Prepare deposition outlines, key document sets, and witness materials for the attorneys taking and defending depositions.
  • Review medical records and case files to support liability and damages analysis for individual plaintiffs.
  • Assist with expert-related work, including gathering materials for experts and supporting expert discovery.
  • Conduct legal research and writing on substantive and procedural issues as the litigation develops.
  • Coordinate with clients as needed, communicating with care and professionalism on sensitive matters.
  • Work closely with the firm's partners in a primarily behind-the-scenes role. Taking depositions and handling hearings are not the focus of this engagement.

Who You Are:

  • Litigation attorney with 5+ years of civil litigation experience, ideally developed at a large law firm or a similar practice, with strong academic credentials.
  • Mass tort, complex, or multi-plaintiff litigation experience strongly preferred. Sexual abuse litigation experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Excellent research, writing, and motion practice skills, with consistently polished and well-organized work product.
  • Experience in Los Angeles Superior Court's complex civil courts is preferred, but not required.
  • Comfortable managing high-volume work across many related cases
  • Comfortable interacting with clients on sensitive matters with discretion and empathy.
  • Organized, responsive, and able to work independently on a fully remote basis
  • Reasonably available during West Coast business hours.
  • Licensed to practice law in California and in good standing preferred. Outstanding attorneys licensed in other states are encouraged to apply.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Outstanding references.
